The Giving Sack: Teaching Your Children Generosity this Season

    0

The holiday season is upon us and the stores are filling up with holiday decor and all of the must-have toys of the year. I don’t know about you, but this time of year is totally overwhelming. There is so much to do, so many events, and so many things to remember.

If your kids are anything like mine, they literally don’t need one thing for Christmas. Their playroom and closets are overflowing with toys and clothes and the thought of more gifts entering our home makes my head spin.

Enter the perfect solution: The Giving Sack. The Giving Sack is written by a fellow mom who wanted to make life simpler and to raise kind humans. When she was unable to find a holiday tradition that was geared specifically to warming hearts, teaching generosity, and giving children the opportunity and responsibility to give, she decided to make her own.

    How does it work?

    1. Read the story with your child, and then give the enclosed sack to the child.
    2. Ask your children to fill the sack with toys they no longer play with or that they have outgrown.
    3. Once filled, secure the sack and place it on your front porch, back stoop or whatever works for you.
    4.  One your children are peacefully asleep, inspect the donations and be sure that all are fit for donation and transfer into a box or bag for donation.
    5. Drop off the the toys at local donation center, church, daycare or family in need.
    6. Hide the sack away for next year or reorder another online.
    7. Praise your children for their generosity, and have them share their experience with others.
    8. Finally, sit back and smile, knowing that you are trying to guide your child along a path of kindness and generosity.

The book and sack are just $19.95 and can be purchased here. Additional sacks are just $7.00, so if you have multiple children, they each can fill their own sack! The best part is that you are supporting another mom and entrepreneur all while giving back and teaching your children a wonderful lesson.
