Your Big Sister is the Original Influencer

There are so many influencers and content creators out there that it’s difficult to say who is the original. But not really. Your big sister is the original influencer. And she didn’t even need Instagram to get started!

Your sister is the original influencer

Because you pined over/stole/borrowed all her makeup because it was so cool. She wore it first, undoubtedly best and when she asked if you got into her makeup because you had blue eyeshadow very far away from your eyes, you said no, but everyone in the house knew the truth as plain as the sparkles on your face.

Because she made everything look cool. If she had it, you wanted it. You knew New Kids on the Block from her, acid-washed denim, fanny packs, and exactly how to get those perfect tunnel bangs. You wanted what she had and she didn’t even have to show it off. She simply had to wear it, have it, or talk about it and then you wanted it. Whatever it was.

Because whether she was 1 year or 5 years older than you, she could still drive first and that made her eminently cool. It didn’t matter if she was driving you to school, piano lessons or to get ice cream, every trip was better and cooler because you weren’t with your parents

Because she grew up first and knows the ropes, from your perception. You may get to grow up a little more gracefully because of her. Your big sister helps you know fashion and friend pitfalls. Her “Been there, done that attitude,” was irritating at best to your parents, but to you, her knowledge as an insider in your family is one of the things you love!

Because she always taught you tips. Whether it was the tip of look what happens when you come home late or “Don’t pluck your eyebrows in a thin line like I did,” you appreciate what you’ve learned.

Even now as an adult when my sister asks what I want for my birthday, I tell her to pick something she’d like, then I’ll like it too! Because even as an adult, she’s still the original influencer.
